Strategy as the starting point

Brand
strategy.

Most brands don't have a strategy problem - they have a clarity problem. They know what they do, but not why it matters to their audience. Brand strategy is the work of making that clear: to yourself, your team, and the market.

The process

01 - Analysis & research

Competitive landscape, target audience, and current brand perception. We start with what's true before we talk about what should be. Desk research, interviews, and stakeholder sessions form the foundation.

02 - Positioning

Where do you play, and why do you win there? We map the competitive space and define a positioning that is distinctive, credible, and commercially relevant - not just aspirational.

03 - Verbal identity

Brand story, tone of voice, key messages. Strategy only delivers value when it translates into language that people actually use. We make it concrete and ready to apply.

Positioning model

A clear articulation of who you serve, what you offer, why it matters, and how you differ. One page. The strategic foundation for every communication decision.

Audience profiles

Research-based profiles of your key audiences - their context, goals, and decision triggers. Not personas invented in a workshop, but patterns derived from actual data.

Verbal identity

Brand story, tone of voice guidelines, and key messages. Practical enough to use immediately - in website copy, presentations, pitches, and job postings.

How is brand strategy different from marketing?
Marketing communicates. Strategy defines what to communicate and to whom. Without strategy, marketing is expensive guesswork. Brand strategy is the foundation that makes marketing decisions clearer and faster.
Do I need brand strategy before building a website?
Yes - if you don't know what your brand stands for, your website will try to say everything and land nothing. Strategy first, design second. Many clients come to me for a website and leave with a strategy too.
How long does a brand strategy project take?
A focused strategy engagement typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. Research and synthesis take most of that time - the deliverables themselves come quickly once the thinking is done.
Can you do strategy and design in the same project?
Yes - and it's often more efficient. Strategy informs design, and early design thinking can reveal gaps in strategy. The two disciplines work well together in one engagement.
